Although South Korea is Asia's fourth largest polluter in the world, they recently publicized a plan to cut greenhouse gases in South Korea by 30% by 2020. Many people believe that South Korea's efforts will help stimulate efforts for the global community to decrease their greenhouse gas emissions. Others point out that 30% is not absolute, and that future economic growth and oil prices will change the target. Another researcher believes that South Korea should have waited for other nations to put out their goals before publicizing their plans.
Either way, any effort in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by South Korea is productive and shows that they are at least noticing the importance of doing this.
The article also discusses Copenhagen, and how many people believe that a global agreement will be unlikely. I'm curious if anyone agrees or disagrees with this. Do you think anything significant will happen in Copenhagen?
