Global warming not root cause of lack of water

I read an article in the New York Times about the US Southeast facing severe shortages in water. At first, the folks living there thought the drought was due to global warming. After scientific analysis of weather data, Columbia University researchers found that rainfalls were about normal. They concluded that the drought was exacerbated by a huge population growth, up 50%, from 6.48 million in 1990 to 9.54 million in 2007. The researchers suggested more reservoirs be built for the growing population.

As populations grow, water supplies if not kept up will dwindle with increasing demand. This is one example that management and not nature is the root cause of the problem.
