ReplyDeleteThat's just about the only word that can describe this. I could barely bring myself to scroll to the end of the photo essay. It makes me never want to use plastic again...
While these images are certainly grotesque, is it wrong of me to say that it really doesn't impact me? I think it's probably just because I've become inundated with images like these and have become desensitized. I'm not saying that it isn't a horrible condition and that the pollution needs to stop, though.
ReplyDeleteGiven the enormous amount of plastics produced each year, it's not surprising that some of them make it into the food cycle of these birds. I've seen turtles and other sea animals trapped in plastic holders that are used for cans. Plastics take an incredibly long period to decompose. Until there is a way to treat them as we treat sewage water, animals are bound to run into them.
